Things to do
NATURE
Set off from Kota Kinabalu to explore a wealth of natural landmarks. Hike up Mount Kinabalu – the highest mountain in Borneo – for magnificent views of the surrounding scenery. Or stay closer to the city and meet orang-utans at Lok Kawi Wildlife, and discover life in the mangroves at Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre.
CULTURE
Kota Kinabalu is a melting pot of different cultures. Learn about the history of indigenous Sabah people, and the land they live in, at the Sabah Museum. Or while away an afternoon with a trip to the city’s bright Chinese Temples. Then, as the sun goes down, follow your nose to the Night Market – one of the best places in town to sample freshly prepared Malaysian dishes.
SPORT
Sadah’s rivers, jungles, mountains and beaches beg to be explored, and Kota Kinabalu is the starting point for many excursions. Take an exhilarating white water rafting tour of nearby Kiulu River. Or travel up the coast for a day’s surfing or paddle boarding from a white, palm-fringed beach.
