NATURE
Immaculate sandy beaches frame Langkawi Island – each the perfect spot to bask in the glistening sunshine or dip into the Andaman Sea. The lure of the water doesn’t stop when you’re on ‘dry’ land though. Langkawi is scattered with breath-taking waterfalls, nestled between the mangrove forests or hiding one of the island’s many caves. It also houses one of the rarest natural wonders on the planet: South East Asia’s first Geopark, a UNESCO site that takes you back to a land that time forgot.
ACTIVITIES
One of the best ways to explore Langkawi is by boat. Relax on deck while floating through mangrove forests, spotting the exotic birds that flock here. If you’re feeling brave, take to the skies and hover over the animals, trees, and rivers in a cable car or the sky bridge. For those who prefer to stay on land, visit Eagle Square, where a feathered friend sits proudly on the waterfront piazza. Or, if you’d prefer a bit of both, head to Perdana Quay Light House. Standing in the harbour, it keeps watch over the Strait of Malacca.
WILDLIFE
Home to over 200 species of birds and almost as many primates, Langkawi is made for animal watchers. Take a trek through Jungle Walla where eagles and kites swoop through the trees. Or see some of the exotic animals that stay a little lower to the ground, including Malayan lizards and Mangrove pit vipers. Tours through the mangroves also bring you close to the many fish that call these waters home. And, if that isn’t enough, venture into the depths of the caves where, if you’re lucky, you may meet a bat or two.
