Explore nature’s diverse beauty amid Kho Chang’s  golden beaches and shimmering waterfalls

If an island adventure beckons, Koh Chang is both conveniently close to the bright lights of Bangkok, and a beach lover’s paradise in its own right. Shining white sands meet turquoise seas, against a background of jungle-covered mountains. Limestone karsts and horizon skimming islets complete the scene for a picture-perfect Thai getaway. Spend your time enjoying the beaches, snorkeling and diving, or venture inland for walking trails, nature spotting and waterfalls.

Things to do

NATURE
Kho Chang’s lush rainforest is covered with hiking trails, and home to a vast array of wildlife, from hornbills and Long-tailed macaques to monitor lizards and snakes. Make the climb to Salak Phet peak, for breathtaking views of the island and its surroundings. Then descend all the way to sea level and explore the island’s dense mangrove forests by kayak, keeping an eye out for kingfishers, mudskippers and crabs. Beyond the shore, Mu Ko Chang National Park is a marine park that envelopes the island, and is known for its diverse underwater ecosystems and spectacular diving.

NIGHTLIFE
Whether searching for bohemian vibes or exclusive parties, Koh Chang has entertainment for every mood, budget and moment. Spend the day people watching and enjoying the cool sounds of the summer at an upscale beach club, then enjoy cocktails and conversation as sun sets from a breezy rooftop bar. Lonely Beach is anything but, with plenty of venues and revellers to club-hop until you find your groove, and a regular series of visiting DJs and beachfront parties. Fire shows and live music are also easy to find, thanks to a well-served backpacker trail.

BEACHES
Aptly named, White Sand Beach is often the first port of call sunseekers. Soft sand, calm water and plenty of facilities make this a brilliant beach for families, meanwhile Bailan Beach is more popular for those looking for something more laid back. For your best chance to spot some of Thailand’s famous marine life, head to Klong Kloi Beach, where near-shore reefs and rocky outcrops provide rich habitats for a rainbow of fish. Or better yet, hop on a kayak or boat trip to the crystal-clear waters of neighbouring islets Koh Yak, Koh Nok, and Koh Wai.

Top Tip from SLH

Take a hike to the waters of Than Mayom Waterfall, a gentle cascade ending in a deep pool, perfect for cooling off to the sounds of birdsong.
