A perfect blend of adventure and relaxation on Fiji’s tropical south coast

Fiji’s ‘adventure capital’ offer scores of wild and wonderful activities for all ages – and tastes. From shark diving to stand-up paddle boarding, much of the fun centres around the warm, clear waters of the Pacific Ocean and Bequ Lagoon. But beyond the golden sand beaches there are rainforests, rapids, and warriors to discover.

Things To Do

WATER
Water lovers can spend more time in the blue stuff than out of it at Pacific Harbour. Strap on a scuba tank to look into the steely eyes of the inhabitants of the aptly-named Shark Reef, or snorkel through the kaleidoscopic colours of Bequ Lagoon’s soft coral. Tube – or float on a traditional bilibili raft – down Navua River through rainforest-filled gorges. And for adrenalin pumping fun, join a whitewater rafting tour and hit the rapids.

SPORTS
The Pearl Golf and Country Club – one of Fiji’s most famous – lies at the heart of Pacific Harbour, offering 18 challenging holes dotted through rainforest and rivers.  Soar over the forest floor on a zip line, or chase down wahoo, blue marlin, and yellow-fin tuna with a spot of fishing in the Pacific’s deep waters. Most resorts have their own specialised boats and experts who’ll help you land your catch.

CULTURE
Get a taste of Fijian flavours and learn to make the local dish of kokoda in a cooking class. Try a herbs and spices tour, foraging for the plants used in traditional medicines and dishes. Or turn up the heat and prepare to be wowed by fire-walking warriors in a ceremony said to have originated on nearby Beqa Island. For a little more hustle and bustle, Fiji’s capital, Suva, is just a short hop up the coast.

Top Tip from SLH

For a taste of Fiji’s indigenous culture, join a traditional ‘kava’ ceremony, named for the heady drink served on important occasions.
