Castles, churches, the palace of Mary, Queen of Scots. There are enough iconic sites in Edinburgh to fill even the busiest of city breaks. For a breath of fresh air in the heart of the city, head to Holyrood Park. Tread moors and parkland, once the favoured hunting ground of Royals, and make your way up to Arthur’s Seat – this extinct volcano offers spellbinding views across Edinburgh.

You’ll find plenty of excellent restaurants serving hearty, traditional Scottish fare. But for something a little lighter, head out to trendy Leith and dine on fresh fish, overlooking the water. The city is home to world-renowned chefs and it’s perfect if you want to indulge in some fine dining.
