Environmentally Conscious

Protecting the natural beauty of the surrounding Aravalli Hills is at the heart of Brij Lakshman Sagar’s ethos, from ongoing reforestation projects and creating birdhouses, butterfly gardens, and seed banks, to collaborating with local horticulturists and landscape designers by planting native trees and vegetation. The organic garden supplies the hotel’s zero-kilometre, farm-to-table kitchen, where the restaurant lighting is made from recycled milk cans and straws are sourced from papaya and bamboo trees grown throughout the solar-powered resort. Henna stems are used to thatch the roofs and keep the cottages naturally insulated, and stone from the hotel grounds is shaped into natural washbasins.

Cultural Custodians

Guests are fully immersed in Rajasthan’s rich heritage through the hotel’s cultural exchange programme, which promotes traditional experiences including cooking classes, folk music and dance workshops, pottery-making, and visits to a ‘jutti’ shoemaker. You can also learn to blend spices like a local, and trek to the 16th-century Fatehgarh Fort with an experienced naturalist. The hotel’s interiors are filled with handcrafted furnishings, textiles, pottery and artwork by Rajasthani artisans (whose crafts can be purchased in the resort’s boutique), and the original 19th-century hunting lodge was meticulously restored by plasterers and stone masons from nearby villages.

Community Minded

The lake at the heart of the resort serves as a rainwater reservoir, which has been thoughtfully designed to support the local community – which in turn, makes up most of the hotel’s staff. An impressive 90% of the hotel’s food and drink supplies come from within a five-kilometre radius, as well as natural oils from local farmers which are infused with ingredients from Brij’s organic garden and used in wellness treatments. Guests are invited to join the local Holi celebrations each spring, and can experience daily Pali life during the hotel’s village safaris. These include sampling traditional dishes, and herding sheep with the Rabari shepherding community. Local nature guides are also available for complimentary cycling tours and wildlife-spotting walks.
