A superb refurbishment of an impressive 19th-century fortress has resulted in a captivating and singular, adults-only boutique hotel overlooking the Bay of Palma. Set in 88 acres and stretching along the coastline for two kilometres, Cap Rocat Mallorca is a spectacular hotel providing a collection of stunning rooms and suites, a selection of magical dining venues, private rock cliff beach with direct access to the sea, jetty and salt water pool.

Both the architecture and setting of Cap Rocat is sensational. Wonderfully secluded with a drawbridge, bunkers and suites in former shooting buttresses, the atmosphere is both historic and romantic. Decorated with a clever blend of contemporary and classic furnishings, suites have their own private patio with beautiful sea views.

Environmentally Conscious

Treading gently on its coastal setting — which is a designated Natural Area of Special Interest — Cap Rocat is surrounded by wildlife-filled pine forests and underwater Posidonia meadows, both important breeding and nesting grounds for bird and marine species. There are over 50 educational signs around the resort detailing the protected areas, with bicycles and walking maps to borrow and electric boat rentals if you’d like to explore. Guests are invited to contribute €3, which Cap Rocat matches and puts towards ocean conservation projects each year. The hotel is plastic free, working towards becoming zero-waste, and is in the process of installing solar panels.

Cultural Custodians

Built atop the ancient military fortress of Cap Enderrocat, Cap Rocat painstakingly preserved many of the historic site’s architectural features, including transforming bunkers and shooting buttresses into bedrooms and maintaining the former drawbridge. The interiors are a celebration of Mallorcan artistry and heritage, with island palm fibres, Marés stone, and the works of local artisans used throughout, including the hotel’s sustainably curated boutique. You can also learn the traditional art of llata in one of Cap Rocat’s braiding workshops, and visit the nearby museum of Junípero Serra dedicated to the missionary work of the 18th century Franciscan friar.

Community Minded

Wherever possible, Cap Rocat hires its workforce from the island, offering ongoing training and development opportunities (as well as access to therapeutic massages at the hotel’s spa to promote staff wellbeing). When not homegrown in the onsite organic garden, ingredients for the zero-kilometre concept restaurant are sourced from local farmers and fishermen, wines from nearby vineyards, and the minibar stocked with Balearic treats like Mallorcan-made chocolates. Thanks to the hotel’s close relationships with local producers, guests can visit wineries and olive groves for tastings and a neighbouring orchard for nature walks and fig tree talks.
