Give a dog a room

Well-behaved dogs are warmly welcomed at Rothay Manor. With several dog-friendly rooms, your four-legged friend is set to enjoy the hotel’s creature comforts as much as you. What’s more, the surrounding fells, lakes and tarns make the perfect canine playground. Take to the hills, then rinse off muddy paws in the hotel’s dedicated dog washroom before drying your pooch with Ruff and Tumble dressing gowns. Dogs are welcome in the drawing room, and in the snug Brathay Room if you’d like their company for dinner.

Rothay Manor

A chef for all seasons

Dining at Rothay Manor comes courtesy of executive chef, Aaron Lawrence – whose varied menus are designed to please. Taking inspiration from the wild local landscape, Aaron crafts plates that showcase the best of local, seasonal ingredients. Meat is sourced from Lake District Farmers, seasonal fruit from the Lyth Valley and lobster from Ulverston. The a la carte menú is complimented by the All Day Dining menu, with such staples as fish linguine, or a seasonal meat pie, alongside light bites such as soup and sandwiches.

Adventures in Ambleside

Rothay Manor is a rare thing: a boutique hotel with lakes, mountains, forests and culture on its doorstep. Learn to sail on beautiful Lake Windermere, tackle the region’s famous fells (with or without a local guide), or spy shy red deer amidst the wildflowers of ancient forests. There’s also indoor rock climbing and outdoor mountain biking, horse riding on windswept beaches, and sustainable foraging in spring and autumn. If you’re in a more poetic mood, see Wordsworth’s original manuscripts in the Wordsworth Museum, or wander round Hilltop, the charming former home of Beatrix Potter.

Independent Minds: Jamie & Jenna Shail

Long drawing ramblers and dog walkers to its poet-praised landscape of rugged fells, soaring peaks, and twinkling tarns, the Lake District is undoubtedly one of the best destinations for back-to-nature breaks in the UK – though has been a little on the ‘rough and ready’ side, until now. The recently renovated, Grade II-listed Rothay Manor is bringing country chic to the Lakes’ camping and ‘pubs with rooms’ scene, putting the picturesque village of Ambleside firmly on the map for boutique hotel lovers. Husband and wife hoteliers, Jamie and Jenna Shail, have created a relaxed, ‘put your feet up’ atmosphere for guests to luxuriate in the Lakes – think crackling fires, free-standing bathtubs, and impossible-to-leave beds.

we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rothay manor!

Rothay Manor offered an excellent breakfast with the best sourdough bread! The location is great. Walk into town or connect to the many trails right outside the manor's front door! The Lakes region is fantastic!

Luxurious hotel , excellent food and attentive staff

Dinner was fabulous. We loved perusing the menus in the garden over pre-dinner drinks and appetisers. Dinner itself was outstanding. The carefully chosen dishes, the presentation and the 'introduction' to each course by the staff, made this a special experience.

We didn't want to leave

Rothay Manor is very handily situated for a short walk to Lake Windermere or into the small town of Ambleside - we were given an upgrade to one of the garden suites in their newly built and very sympathetic extension. The sitting area was delightful and the bathroom was beautifullly designed - we had Read more[SPLIT]Read lessa couple of rainy days and so we very much appreciated how comfortable & cosy the room was. We also thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience - we ate dinner in the restaurant on two occasions and the food was excellent - good high end cooking. All the staff were efficient and friendly - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the weather, we would definitely recommend and we will stay again.
