Things to do
NATURE
Under the waves there’s magic to be found. Extraordinary in colour and clarity, the waters of the Maldives are bursting with life. Schools of silver trevally, barracuda and snapper patrol the lagoons, while gentle giants of the sea – manta rays and whale sharks – are found in deeper waters. Diving, snorkelling and paddleboarding are the best ways to enjoy the reefs and coral cays, where everything from colourful clown fish and parrot fish, to black tipped reef sharks and moray eels can be seen.
WATER
On South Ari Atoll the shining sea is both the stunning backdrop for your stay and the source of your entertainment. Life on the islands revolves around the water, but you can take things at your own pace. Dip a toe in from a hammock swinging gently in the breeze, or create your own wake on the back of a roaring jet ski. After a day diving or snorkelling, admire stunning sunsets from the deck of a catamaran, then watch as the waters come alive at night with hauntingly beautiful bioluminescence.
DINING
From the catch of the day to warming fish curries, seafood naturally takes centre stage on the islands. Seek out fihunu mas (grilled fish with Maldivian spices), often cooked up right on the beach, while nourishing garudhiya, a fragrant soup, is perfect for a light lunch. Whether sampling traditional Maldivian cuisine or enjoying the atoll’s incredible fine dining scene, every morsel will pack a punch of flavour and finesse.
