Things to do
SKI
With a name meaning ‘snowy range’, it comes as little surprise Sierra Nevada is ski territory. There are over 100 pistes, making this a ski resort suited to beginners and pros alike. Work your way up to Pico del Veleta – the ‘weather vane’. At over 3000m it’s the range’s second highest peak, and promises an exhilarating run.
NATURE
Soaring mountains, glacial lakes, winding rivers – Sierra Nevada National Park is a nature lover’s paradise. Swap skis for hiking boots and set out to discover the region’s array of flora and fauna. You might spot wildcats and ibex in the hills, eagles and kestrels in the air, and rare wildflowers at your feet.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES
Round up the little ones and head to Mirlo Blanco. This winter wonderland has an ice rink, mini-ski and snowboards made for kids, as well as toboggans. Hop aboard the Russian Sleigh to ride a rollercoaster with a snowy twist, or take on the slalom on a bicycle. For something a little less active, but just as magical, there are horse-riding schools offering tours through the Sierra Nevada countryside.
